1 1/2 cups toovar (arhar) dal
1/2 tbsp turmeric powder (haldi)
salt to taste
1 finely chopped tomato
1/2 tbsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
5 to 6 curry leaves (kadi patta)

To grind
1 cup grated coconut
1 medium size onion
2 to 3 green chillies
1 tbsp cumin seeds (jeera)
small piece of ginger (adrak)
5 to 6 cloves of garlic (lehsun)
coriander (dhania) according to taste

  1. Cook dal in pressure cooker and keep a side.
  2. Add oil to kadai and then add rai,kadipatta and haldi to it.stir it.
  3. Add the grinded paste stir for 1 min .
  4. Now add dal ,salt and necessary amount of water depending uopon the thickness you want.
  5. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
  6. garnish with coriander and serve hot.
