Ingredients
1 1/2 tbsp powdered poppy seeds (khus-khus)
2 tsp oil
1/4 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
2 whole dry kashmiri red chillies , broken into pieces
1/2 cup finely sliced onions
2 cups peeled and sliced ridge gourd (turai)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1/4 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp finely chopped green chillies
salt to taste
Method
    Method
  1. Combine the poppy seeds powder and 1 tbsp of water in a bowl and mix well to make a smooth paste. Keep aside.
  2. Heat the oil in a non-stick kadhai and add the mustard seeds.
  3. When the seeds crackle, add the red chillies and sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.
  4. Add the onions and sauté on a medium flame for 3 to 4 minutes or till they turn translucent.
  5. Add the ridge gourd, turmeric powder, chilli powder, green chillies and 2 tbsp of water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 4 to 5 minutes, while stirring once in between.
  6. Add the poppy seed paste, salt and 3 tbsp of water mix well and cover and cook on a medium flame for another 4 to 5 minutes, stirring once in between. Serve hot.
