It looks like a bread roll, but when you bite into it, it turns out to be a pizza! Can there be anything more awesome than this?

The Pizza Bomb is a unique snack that appeals to both the sandwichlovers and the pizza fans.

It is not as simple as rolling the pizza toppings into a slice of bread. Rather, the bread dough itself is layered with readymade pizza sauce, bell peppers, jalapeno and cheese before being baked. Perfectly golden brown, crisp outside and gooey inside, the Pizza Bombs are a class apart.

They look and smell irresistible. When you are in a hurry, you can make this with readymade pizza crust, but the process we have used gives you a richer texture and taste.

If you love cheese, feel free to sprinkle some on top to enhance the appeal of this irresistible snack.

For the Pizza Bombs dough

  1. Combine the sugar and 2 tbsp of warm water in a small bowl. Dip your finger to check for the ideal temperature, if the water is hot, the yeast will not activate on addition.
  2. Add the dry yeast to it. Stir it once.
  3. Cover it with a lid and keep aside for 10 minutes. The appearance of a frothy layer means the yeast is activated.
  4. Combine the plain flour, butter and salt in a deep bowl.
  5. Add the activated yeast-sugar mixture and mix well.
  6. Knead it into a soft dough using approx. ½ cup of warm water.
  7. Cover the dough with a damp muslin cloth and keep aside for 20 minutes. This is known as proofing of bread.
  8. It looks like this after 20 minutes of resting.

For the homemade veg Pizza Bombs stuffing

  1. I have chopped some jalapeno slices to get 2 tbsp chopped jalapeno.
  2. In a bowl, add finely chopped colored capsicum. You can even use any single color capsicum or take half amount of finely chopped onions as per your personal preference.
  3. Add the chopped jalapeno to this bowl.
  4. Now add the ready made pizza sauce. If you feel it lacks any seasoning then you can additionally add 1 tsp mixed herbs or just some oregano/chilly flakes.
  5. Add the grated mozzarella cheese to this mixture and mix well.
  6. Divide the Pizza Bombs stuffing into 8 equal portions. Keep aside.

How to proceed

  1. Roll a portion into a ball, flatten it into a 100 mm. (4”) diameter circle. Don’t spread the dough too thin or else the stuffing will leak.
  2. Place the flattened circle on your palm.
  3. Place a portion of the stuffing in the center. Ensure that you don’t over stuff.
  4. Bring all the sides together and pinch them together in the center. Make sure your sauce doesn’t get on the part you want to stick together or else it won’t seal together and get messy.
  5. Discard the extra dough and roll it between your palms into a ball. Make sure the dough is completely sealed around the filling. If not it will open up in the oven and turn out more like a bowl shaped.
  6. Repeat step 1 to 5, to make 7 similar pizza bombs.
  7. Transfer them into a greased baking tray.
  8. Cover them with a damp muslin cloth and keep aside in a warm place for 25 minutes.
  9. Remove the muslin cloth. They will now look like this.
  10. Bake them in a pre-heated oven at 200°C (400°F) for 18 to 20 minutes.
  11. Serve the pizza pav hot brushed with melted butter.
