Onion Chutney By Pearlie recipe - How to make Onion Chutney By Pearlie

Preparation Time:    Cooking Time:    Total Time:     Makes 2 cup

2 big onions , chopped
6 to 8 whole dry kashmiri red chillies
2 tbsp tamarind (imli) pulp
1 tomato , chopped
1 tbsp oil
salt to taste

For Seasoning
2 tsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
a few curry leaves (kadi patta)
1 tsp urad dal (split black lentils)
2 whole dry kashmiri red chillies , deseeded and broken up
  1. Heat the oil in a pan, add the onions and saute till they turn translucent.
  2. Add the red chilies and saute for 20 seconds.
  3. Add the tomatoes and saute till they are soft.
  4. Cool and blend in a mixer along with salt and a little water to a smooth paste.
  5. For the tempering, heat the oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds and urad dal.
  6. When the seeds crackle, add the curry leaves and red chillies and saute for 20 seconds.
  7. Pour this to the chutney and mix well.
  8. Serve with dosa or idli.
