Nutritious protein pancakes (kadai) isamde from a batter comprising of gram flour, chopped methi leaves, chillies and grated coconut. Enjoy this health packed tasty pancakes with sauce or chutney of choice.

Nutritious Protein Pancakes recipe - How to make Nutritious Protein Pancakes

Preparation Time:    Cooking Time:    Total Time:     Makes 4 to 6 adais

1 1/2 cups rice (chawal)
1/2 cup toovar (arhar) dal
1/2 cup urad dal (split black lentils)
1/2 cup chana dal (split bengal gram)
1/4 cup beaten rice (poha)
1/4 cup kulith (horse gram)
1/4 cup soyabean
1 tbsp black peppercorns (kalimirch)
5 to 8 whole dry kashmiri red chillies , soaked in water for 30 minutes
1 tsp finely chopped ginger (adrak)
1/2 cup curry leaves (kadi patta)
1/2 tsp asafoetida (hing)
1/2 cup grated coconut (optional)
salt to taste
oil for cooking

For Toppings
1 cup finely chopped fenugreek (methi) leaves
1 cup finely chopped onions
  1. Clean, wash and soak the rice and all the dals together in enough water for about 4 - 6 hrs.
  2. Drain and blend in a mixer till smooth.
  3. Combine the red chillies, pepper, ginger, curry leaves, poha , coconut pieces and blend in a mixer into a thick and coarse paste, using water.
  4. Add saltadn this paste to the batter and mix well and keep aside.
  5. Heat a non stick tava and pour a ladeful of batter and spread in a circular motion to make a thick round pancake.
  6. Cook on both the sides, using oil till golden colour and crisp.
  7. Serve hot with jaggery pieces and a dollop of butter.
