  1. Combine 1 tbsp mustard seeds, coconut, salt, turmeric , asafoetida and red chillies and blend in a mixer to a coarse paste, adding very little water. Keep aside.
  2. Heat the oil in a kadhai and add the mustard seeds.
  3. When the seeds crackle, add the curry leaves, urad dal, chana dal, cashewnuts and groundnut and saute for 30 seconds.
  4. Add the rice and ground masala and salt and mix well.
  5. Serve hot.
