Mushroom Kofta Curry, a treat for mushroom lovers. Koftas made with a blend of mushrooms and onions served in gravy that is perked up with a wide range of spices and powders.This gravy combines well with an array of vegetables and different koftas as well. For The Koftas
10 to 12 mushrooms (khumbh) , blanched
2 onions , finely chopped
1/2 tsp chopped ginger (adrak)
3 tbsp plain flour (maida)
salt to taste
oil for cooking

For The Gravy
2 onions , finely chopped
1 tsp grated ginger (adrak)
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera) powder
2 tsp red chilli powder
1 1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
3 cardamoms
3 cloves (laung / lavang)
1 stick cinnamon (dalchini)
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1/2 tsp sugar
2 tomatoes , chopped
3 tbsp oil
salt to taste
chopped coriander (dhania) for garnishing
  1. Mash the mushrooms and place them in a bowl.
  2. Add the ginger, onions, green chillies and plain flour and mix well.
  3. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into round koftas.
  4. Heat the oil in a kadhai and deep fry the koftas till golden brown in colour from all the sides.
  5. Drain on an absorbent paper and keep aside.

For the gravy

  1. Heat the oil in a broad pan, add the onions and saute till golden brown.
  2. Add the cumin seeds powder, ginger, chilli powder, turmeric powder, cardamoms, cumin seeds, tomatoes, sugar and salt and mix well. Cook till the mixture is cooked and dry.
  3. Add enough water and cook for 3-4 minutes.

How to serve

    How to serve
  1. Just before serving, add the koftas to the gravy and bring it to boil.
  2. Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
