Ingredients

To Be Blended Into A Smooth Paste
4 tsp freshly grated coconut
2 tsp ginger (adrak)
6 to 7 curry leaves (kadi patta)
6 to 7 garlic (lehsun) cloves
1 tsp coriander (dhania) seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
6 to 7 fresh red chillies
salt to taste
4 tsp water

For Batter
1/2 cup rice (chawal)
3 tsp chana dal (split bengal gram)
3 tsp moong dal (split green gram)
salt to taste

Other Ingredients
2 peeled and sliced potatoes
oil for cooking
Method

  1. Add the potato slices in half of the prepared paste, mix well and keep aside to marinate for 20 minutes.

  1. Wash and soak rice and all the dals in enough water for 4-5 hours.
  2. Combine and blend in a mixer into a smooth paste using water as required.
  3. Add the salt and half of the prepared paste, mix well and keep aside.

How to proceed

  1. Dip potato slices in prepared batter.
  2. Heat non stick tava (griddle) and grease it with little oil.
  3. Put three potato slices, pour little batter on it, pour little oil around the edges and cook till they turn golden brown from both the sides.
  4. Turn upside down carefully and cook from both the sides.
  5. Serve hot.
  6. Similarly prepare other chillas.
