Ingredients Quantities
Pigeon Pea Split (toor Dal) 6 tbsps
Rice 3 tbsps
2 garlic (lehsun) cloves
Ginger 1"
1 tsp chilli powder
Turmeric Powder 1 tsp
Coriander Powder 1 tsp
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera) powder
Peppercorns 1/2 tsp
2 tbsp ghee
Onion (finely Chopped) 1 large
1 bayleaf (tejpatta)
salt to taste
Coconut Milk 3/4 cup
Tamarind Pulp 2 tbsps
Garam Masala Powder 1/2 tsp
Peppercorns (crushed) 1/2 tsp
Rice (boiled) 1 tbsp

  1. Method of preparation
  2. Soak the lentils and rice in water.
  3. Grind garlic, ginger, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and pepper corns to a paste.
  4. Heat ghee in a pan, add bay leaf and chopped onions. sauté for a minute on high heat.
  5. Add soaked dal and rice. mix and then add the ground paste and a little water. mix and add little salt.
  6. When the soup comes to a boil cover and cook till the rice and dal is done.
  7. Strain and bring the soup to a boil again.
  8. Add tamarind pulp, coconut milk and stir.
  9. Add garam masala powder and mix well.
  10. Boil for some time then add crushed pepper corns.
  11. Garnish with boiled rice and serve hot.
