Lal Bhaat recipe - How to make Lal Bhaat

1 cup rice (chawal)
2 tbsp oil
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tsp chilli powder
2 cloves (laung / lavang)
2 cinnamon (dalchini) sticks
1 onion , finely chopped
1 tomato , finely chopped
salt to taste
  1. Heat the oil in a deep pan add the cloves, cinnamon and cumin seeds.
  2. When the seeds crackle, add the onions and saute till they turn golden brown.
  3. Add the tomatoes and saute till the oil leaves the sides.
  4. Add the turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt, mix well and add the rice and saute for 2 minutes.
  5. Add 2 cups of water, mix well and bring to boil.
  6. Cover and cook till the rice is cooked and all the water is evaporated.
  7. Serve hot.
