Khichadi is a simple gruel of a lentil and rice which can be made by cooking rice , lentils along with Indian spices. The delectable khichadi is appealing in looks and tastes delicious with curd or vegetables.

3/4 cup uncooked rice (chawal)
3/4 cup sprouted moong
2 to 3 pinches asafoetida (hing)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
2 tbsp ghee
To be mixed together in masala mixture
2 tsp coriander-cumin seeds (dhania-jeera) powder
2 tsp sugar
1 tsp chilli powder
2 tbsp grated fresh coconut
2 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
a pinch asafoetida (hing)
salt to taste


  1. Wash the rice. drain.
  2. Wash the moong sprouts. drain.
  3. Put the ghee in a glass bowl and microwave on high for about 30 seconds.
  4. Add the rice, moong sprouts, asafoetida, turmeric powder, masala mixture and 2 1/2 teacups of water.
  5. Cover and microwave on high for about 15 minutes, stirring in-between after every 5 minutes.
