An innovative pakoda or snack recipe, the Idli pakoda has the steamed leftover idlis mixed with boiled potatoes, grated carrots and spice powders and then deep fried. Relish this delicious combination of vegetables with idlis in a crunchy snack recipe with green chutney.

4 steamed idlis
1 boiled potato, grated
1/2 cup grated carrot, cauliflower, cabbage and boiled peas
1 tsp chopped ginger (adrak) and green chillies
salt, chilli powder and lemon juice to taste
1 cup besan (Bengal gram flour)
salt, chilli powder to taste
oil to fry

  1. Slit the idlis from the centre.
  2. Mix potapoes, 1/2 cup mixed vegetables, ginger, chillies, salt,red chilli powder and lemon juice.
  3. Take the bottom part of idli and put this vegetable mixture on it.
  4. Cover with the top part of idli.


  1. Mix gramflour, salt, red chilli powder.
  2. Add water and make medium consistency paste.
  3. Dip the idlis in this paste and deep fry.
  4. Cut it in half and serve with ketchup.
