For The Covering
1 cup rice flour (chawal ka atta)
1 cup water
1 tsp cardamom (elaichi) powder
2 tsp ghee
a pinch salt

For The Filling
1 1/2 cups crushed green peas
1/2 cup grated jaggery (gur)
1 tsp cardamom (elaichi) powder
a pinch nutmeg (jaiphal) powder
2 tbsp chopped cashewnuts (kaju)
1 tsp poppy seeds (khus-khus)
1 tbsp ghee
ghee for greasing

  1. Bring water to boil in a pan add salt and rice flour and mix well until smooth, thick and dough like.
  2. Remove from the flame. cover and keep aside for some time. Knead it well and finish it with little ghee and keep it soft and covered.

For the filling

  1. Heat the ghee in a pan, add the peas, jaggery and spices and let the jaggery melt, mix well and cook till the mixture turns thick.
  2. Keep aside.

  1. Keep the steamer on boil.
  2. Make small balls out of the rice dough and roll it to 2 - 3 inch rounds.
  3. Arrange the filling mixture in center and pinch its edges and gather them in the center and pinch it to seal and give it a proper pouch like modak shape.
  4. Arrange them in a steamer and steam it for 10 - 15 minutes.
  5. Serve them garnished with melted ghee, cardamom powder and serve them decorated with rose petals.
