For activating the yeast

  1. For preparing Dominos style garlic bread sticks | garlic bread sticks | Dominos style garlic bread at home | we first need to activate the yeast. For that in a small bowl, take instant dry yeast.
  2. Add sugar. Sugar has multiple roles in bread making. One is it acts as a food for yeast and helps in creating carbon dioxide and alcohol. Sugar also enhances the flavour of the garlic bread, gives a crumbly texture & golden crust to the garlic bread strips. You can even make use of honey or maple syrup to activate the yeast.
  3. Add 2 tbsp warm water. Don’t forget to check the temperature of water by dipping your finger. Water that's too hot can damage or kill the yeast.
  4. Mix well. Cover with a lid and keep aside for 10 minutes.
  5. After 10 minutes, you will see a frothy layer which indicates our yeast has been activated and is ready to use. If it does not, then throw and restart or get another batch of yeast. If you use flat yeast, you will get dense and sticky bread strips

How to make Dominos Garlic bread

  1. To make Dominos style garlic bread at home, dust a clean dry surface with little maize flour. It gives a rough texture similar to what you get in Dominos garlic bread.
  2. Place the risen dough over it.
  3. Knead it till smooth by stretching it and folding it back. Do not compromise on kneading part, as the gluten needs to be formed which helps in giving a fluffy texture to the garlic bread strips
  4. Divide the dough into 2 equal portions.
  5. Roll a portion of the dough into a 175 mm. (7”) diameter circle using a little maize flour for rolling.
  6. Spread ½ of the garlic butter mixture on one side of the circle, leaving the edges. Ensure you do not reach the edges or else it will ooze out and also make it difficult to seal.
  7. Cover it with the other half of the dough to make a semi-circle.
  8. Press it well using your fingers to seal the edges completely.
  9. Repeat step 5 to 8 to make one more garlic bread
  10. Place them on a baking tray lined with butter paper.
  11. Cover it with a damp muslin cloth and keep aside for 30 minutes. Allowing dough to rise twice results in a finer gluten structure than allowing it to rise once. This gives a better volume, a more mellow yeast flavour and a finer texture to the bread.
  12. After 30 minutes, the garlic bread will look like this.
  13. Slit vertically each garlic bread slightly at regular intervals using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter.
  14. Brush 2 tsp of melted butter over each garlic bread.
  15. Sprinkle the prepared spice mixture evenly over them. This gives them the perfect all-over garlic flavour in every bite.
  16. Bake it in a pre-heated oven at 200°c (400°f) for 25 minutes.
  17. Once baked, brush 2 tsp of melted butter over each Dominos style garlic bread sticks | garlic bread sticks | Dominos style garlic bread at home |
  18. Separate the Dominos style garlic bread | garlic bread sticks | Dominos style garlic bread at home | along the slits to get strips.
