Dal Roti recipe - How to make Dal Roti

Preparation Time:    Cooking Time:    Total Time:     Makes 2 to 4 rotis

  1. Soak the dal in enough water for 4 to 5 hours.
  2. Drain the dal and combine the dal with garlic, chillies, cumin seeds and salt and blend in a mixer to smooth powder.
  3. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and keep aside.
  4. Combine the wheat flour with enough water and knead into a soft dough.
  5. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll out a portion of the dough into a circle of 4" diameter.
  6. Place a portion of the stuffing at the centre and bring the edges together at the centre to seal tightly.
  7. Roll out again into a circle of 6" diameter, using little whole wheat flour.
  8. Heat a tava and cook each roti, using little oil, till golden brown spots appear on both the sides.
  9. Repeat the same steps to make 3 more rotis.
  10. Serve hot.
