For The Dal Filling
1/2 cup soaked chana dal (split bengal gram)
1 tsp grated ginger (adrak)
1 tsp chopped green chillies
1 tsp asafoetida (hing)
2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp garam masala
1 tbsp oil
salt to taste

To Be Kneaded Into A Soft Dough
1 cup whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp carom seeds (ajwain)
water as required
2 tbsp ghee
2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1 tbsp coriander (dhania)
For the dal filling:

    For the dal filling:
  1. Blend the dal in a mixer till smooth, using little ewater.
  2. Heat oil in a non stick pan and add the asafoetida and cumin seeds.
  3. When the seeds crackle, add the ginger, chilli and saute for a while.
  4. Add the dal paste and saute for 3 minutes.
  5. Add all the spices and mix well and saute till the mixture becomes dry and crumbly in texture.
  6. Remove from the flame and cool completely. Keep aside.

  1. Divide the dough into equal portions and roll our each portion into a thin chapati of 4" diameter.
  2. Place 1 tbsp filling in the middle of a circle and fold it to make a semi-circle, sealing the edges and roll out again to make a circle of 1/2" thick shape.
  3. Repeat the same with remaining dough and stuffing to make more such faras.
  4. Boil water in a deep pan and add the faras to it.
  5. Cook till they become light and starts floating on water.
  6. Remove, cool and cut in to pieces.
  7. Heat the ghee in a pan, add the cumin seeds and when the seeds crackle, add the pieces and saute gently.
  8. Serve hot garnished with green chutney and coriander leaves.
