Months eight and nine are really a time to experiment with your child’s food. Start introducing more ingredients, with varied flavours and textures, so that the child will get used to variety.
Cosseted babies brought up on just one or two staple foods will be troublesome to handle in the long run, because they will refuse almost everything later.
So, experiment with different combinations of vegetables, such as in this Bottle Gourd and Cauliflower Soup. Here, both vegetables have a smooth and creamy texture, which your baby will find soothing. When introducing new veggies, just make sure your child is not allergic to any of them.
- Combine the bottle gourd, cauliflower and 1 cup of water in a pressure cooker, mix well and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
- Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.
- Cool slightly and blend in a mixer till smooth.
- Transfer the mixture into a deep non-stick pan and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute.
- Serve lukewarm.
