Apple Upside Down Cake recipe - How to make Apple Upside Down Cake

Ingredients

For The Fruit Layer
1 apple
1/2 tsp cinnamon (dalchini) powder
1/2 tsp cardamom (elaichi) powder (optional)
1/2 tsp nutmeg (jaiphal) powder (optional)
1 tsp lemon juice
3 tbsp brown sugar

For The Cake Batter
1 cup plain flour (maida)
1/3 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup melted butter
3/4 cup water
a pinch salt
1 tsp vanilla essence
Method
For the fruit layer

    For the fruit layer
  1. Grease and line a cake tin with parchment paper.
  2. Peel the apple and cut into thin, even slices.
  3. Lay the apple slices at the bottom of the cake tin on top on the parchment paper neatly.
  4. Sprinkle the spices and lemon juice on top of the apple slices.
  5. Sprinkle the brown sugar all over the apple slices.

  1. In a mixing bowl, add the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, pinch of salt and give a good mix.
  2. Add the butter and water.
  3. Mix well but do not over mix.
  4. Add vanilla and mix well.

To proceed

    To proceed
  1. Pour the batter on top of the apple slices.
  2. Preheat the microwave oven at 160c.
  3. Place the tray in the oven and microwave at HIGH for 8 minutes.
  4. Further bake the cake at convection/grill mode at 160 degree C for 3 minutes.
  5. Remove the tray from the oven only after the exhaust fans on the microwave have turned off themselves.
  6. Let it cool for 5 minutes in the pan and then loosen edges with a knife. Invert on a plate.
  7. Slice and serve the apple upside down cake warm.
