Ingredients

8 to 10 medium sized plums
6 to 8 dates (khajur)
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
large lemon sized piece jaggery (gur)
salt to taste
1/2 tsp black salt (sanchal)
1 tsp chilli powder
Method

  1. Wash, peel, remove stones and cut plums roughly. make a puree.
  2. Wash and de-stone dates. chop roughly.
  3. Roast cumin seeds and powder them. grate jaggery.
  4. Heat a thick-bottomed pan and pour plum puree in it.
  5. When it comes to a boil add salt, jaggery, rock salt, red chilli powder and stir well.
  6. Simmer on medium heat for ten minutes or till it thickens and add cumin powder. stir and let it simmer further for two to three minutes.
  7. Mix in dates and cook for two more minutes stirring continuously. remove from heat, cool thoroughly and store in a sterilized, airtight glass jar.
