Description
Brown Bread buns; traditionally refer to small, round shaped yeast bread which can be flavoured with an array of ingredients. They have a dome shape and a flat bottom. A light brown crust is visible on the dome.
The basic ingredients that go into the making of brown bread buns are whole grain flour like wheat or rye, sugar, eggs, butter or fat, yeast and a colouring like molasses, coffee or caramel. In other words, in the process of making brown bread, the bran and germ of the wheat flour are not removed and left intact. The result is that the bread retains all its essential nutrients, along with the much healthy fiber.The dough is fermented and after proving it is shaped into small rounds, brushed with egg wash or milk wash and then baked. A bun can be long and skinny, short and round and or come in many different shapes and sizes.

If purchasing from the bakery, ensure that it is freshly baked. You can make out from the crust and aroma of the bread buns. Also check the manufacturing date, expiry date and packaging.
