biscuit crumbs

Description

As the name states, they are coarsely or finely textured powder derived from biscuits. It finds use specifically in the bakery section. It is not commonly available and thus is usually prepared at home. Usually digestive biscuits are used to prepare the crumbs. Around 7 to 8 biscuits would be required to make 1 cup of crumbs.To make biscuit crumbs at home, just grind in a mixer or crush between two sheets of waxing paper using a rolling pin. As an alternative to biscuit crumbs, grahams cracker crumbs may be used as an alternative.



How to select

Ensure that if making fresh, you use good quality biscuits to prepare the crumbs. If purchasing from food stores, ensure that you check the packaging, manufacturing and expiry date.

Culinary Uses

· Biscuit crumbs are specifically used as bases in cheesecakes. A combination of crumbs and butter is placed as a base on spring foam pans which are set along with cheesecake mixture.
· Use biscuit crumbs to make biscuit crumb pastry or chocolate biscuit cake etc.
· You can also use it as base for flans, pies etc.

How to store

Store in an air tight container away from moisture.
