Ingredients

2 tbsp ghee
1/2 cup broken wheat (dalia)
2 cups milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 tsp cardamom (elaichi) powder
1/4 cup chopped mixed nuts
1 tbsp chironji nuts (charoli)
Method

For dalia kheer

    For dalia kheer
  1. To make dalia kheer recipe, heat 1 tsp ghee in a pressure cooker, add the nuts and saute for a minute.
  2. Remove in a plate and keep aside.
  3. Heat the remaining ghee and add dalia. Saute on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring continuously.
  4. Add 1 cup water and 1 cup milk. Mix well and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
  5. Allow the steam to escape and then open the lid.
  6. Add sugar, remaining 1 cup milk, cardamom powder and nuts.
  7. Mix well and cook on medium flame for 3 to 4 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  8. Serve dalia kheer hot.

Amazingly, this healthy kheer still manages to give you the total satisfaction that you get from other kheer.. as the bulgur wheat gives this kheer a complete rich and creamy texture... very mildly sweetened and quite filling... this is an excellent dessert to make as a quick and easy last minute stir.. and with no mess.. simple ingredients.. and great flavor..

It's a lovely twist to the normal rice kheer,a very healthy version. I loved the texture and the sweetness is just perfect.

Healthy light dessert. Good to see the use of dalia and low fat milk. My girls loved it too.
