Think beyond the traditional cucumber when making raita. How about using boiled and mashed yam? you are sure to love this unconventional accompaniment.

Preparation Time:     Makes 1.5 cups

1 cup peeled , boiled and mashed yam (suran)
1 cup fresh curds (dahi)
rock salt (sendha namak) to taste
1 1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp green chilli paste
1/2 tsp black pepper powder
2 tsp chopped coriander (dhania)

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
  2. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  3. Serve chilled.

Raitas and curds are my favourite and having a raita on the fast day is an awesome feeling. This yam raita is ready in no time. the rock salt adds an amazing andspecific taste to this yam raita. Also because the yam is grated you will not find it bland.
