Vegetable Balls In Tomato Sauce

For the vegetable balls
1 1/2 cups mixed vegetables, finely chopped
2 potatoes, boiled and mashed
2 tbsp plain flour (maida)
4 green chillies, chopped
1/2 tsp garam masala
1 tbsp broken cashewnuts (kaju)
5 to 6 raisins (kismis), cut into small pieces
2 tsp lemon juice
1 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
salt to taste

For frying the vegetable balls
batter of 1/2 teacup plain flour (maida) and 1 teacup water
bread crumbs
oil for deep-frying

For the tomato sauce
1 kg tomatoes , cut into big pieces
3/4 tsp chilli powder
3 to 4 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp fresh cream
2 tbsp tomato ketchup
salt to taste

For the baking (optional)
2 tsp fresh cream
3 tbsp grated processed cheese

For the vegetable balls

  1. Mix the ingredients for the balls and shape into small balls.
  2. Dip the balls in the batter, roll into bread crumbs and deep fry in oil.

For the tomato sauce

  1. Boil the tomatoes without any water. When cooked, blend in a liquidiser and strain.
  2. Add the chilli powder, sugar and salt and boil for 10 minutes on a slow flame.
  3. Add the cream and ketchup.

How to proceed

  1. Arrange the balls in serving tray and serve with the hot sauce.
  2. If you wish to serve baked, arrange the balls in a baking tray, pour the hot sauce on top, spread the cream and sprinkle the cheese on top. Bake in a hot oven at 230 degree C (450 degree F) for 5 minutes.
  3. Serve hot.
