Makes 1 1/2 teacups.

Ingredients


200 gms dates (khajur), without stones
100 gms tamarind (imli)
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp roasted cumin seeds (jeera) powder (optional)
1/4 tsp black salt (sanchal)
salt to taste

Method
  1. Remove seeds from the tamarind and dates, wash and add 1 teacup of water. Leave for 2 hours.
  2. Cook for 5 miniutes. Thereafter, blend in a liquidiser and strain.
  3. Add the chilli powder, cumin seed powder and salt to the chutney.
