Sugar does not dissolve very easily in cold liquid, so many of these recipes suggest using sugar syrup, the recipe for which is given.

Ingredients


500 gms sugar
2 cups water

Method
  1. Put the sugar in a saucepan with the water and dissolve slowly over a low heat. Bring to the boil and boil 200 degreeC (400 degree F). Cool and use as reuired, or bottle for future use.

Tips
  1. This syrup may be used to sweeten a very wide variety of drinks.
  2. If possible, use sugar syrup instead of sugar for sweetening (unless the recipe specificially asks for sugar).
  3. Syrup mixes much more readily with cold ingredients.
