Rice probably originated in India. All over the East, rice is the staple food and is a treated as a symbol of happiness.

Ingredients



For the rice
1 teacup uncooked unpolished rice
2 bayleaves (tejpatta)
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1 stick cinnamon (dalchini)
2 cloves (laung / lavang)
1 tbsp oil
salt to taste

For the sprout mixture
1 1/2 teacups moong sprouts
1 onion, chopped
1 green chilli, chopped
1 cup finely chopped spinach (palak)
1 tbsp oil
salt to taste

Method
  1. For the rice, heat the oil and fry the bay leaves, cumin seeds, cinnamon and cloves for a few minutes.
  2. Add the washed rice and salt and fry for 2 to 3 mixtures.
  3. Add 2 teacups of water, cover and cook.
  4. For the sprout mixture, heat the oil and fry the onion and green chilli for 2 minutes.
  5. Add the sprouts and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the spinach and cook again for a minute.
  6. Add the cooked rice and mix well. Serve hot.

Tips

  2. Unpolished rice preserves its contents of B-Group vitamins, zinc and magnesium.
  3. Rice is three-fouths complex carbohydrates.
  4. Sprouting of pulses increases their vitamin content.
