Savoury Protein Pancakes

Spicy, high-protein pancakes. Best had with chutney.

For the batter
3/4 cup moong dal (split green gram)
3 green chillies
3 tbsp fresh low fat yoghurt
1 tbsp besan (Bengal gram flour)
a pinch asafoetida (hing)
1/2 tsp baking powder
salt to taste

For the cooking

To be mixed with stufing
100 gms grated low fat cottage cheese
2 tomatoes, chopped
2 green chillies, finely chopped
2 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
salt to taste

  1. For the batter, soak the dal overnight for 3 to 4 hours.
  2. Grind the soaked dal with the green chilies and yoghurt.
  3. Add the gram flour, asafoetida, baking powder and salt and mix well.
  4. To proceed, heat a non-stick tawa (griddle) and spread a little moong dal mixture.
  5. Spread a little stuffing on it and smear a little oil on the sides.
  6. Turn upside down and cook again for a few minutes.
  7. Repeat with the remaining mixture and stuffing.
  8. Serve hot with mint chutney or sweet chutney.
