Sambhar is a popular South Indian lentil recipe with the tuar dal cooked with vegetables and spice powders and then mixed with tamarind pulp. Enjoy with rice.

1 cup Fenugreek Seeds powder, 1 Cup Salt,1 lime or sour curds
For the tempering :1/2 teaspoon asfotedia, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, 6 Green Chillies giving a cut making just two halves not seperated, 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds, 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds,2 tablespoons Oil


  1. Roast fenugreek seeds and grind it (not too powdered), then also roast salt till it is white and free flowing.
  2. Now mix the ingridients,and add some lime to it, mix well and set in a bowl tightly.
  3. Keep it overnight.
  4. Then take some oil in a pan, add the mustard and cumin seeds, after the mustard seeds crackle, add some asfotedia, turmeric powder and green chillies and after the chillies get a little fried, add the mixture set in the bowl. cook on slow flame for 2 minutes. let it get cool completely.
  5. It can be served on plain khakhra, with roti, rice, etc.
