Salt water & dry fish (uppu chaaru) is a traditional South Indian way of preparing dry fish (sookhi machhi) with tamarind, spice powders and onion. Relish this spicy dried fish recipe with appam or rice.

Ingredients


Dry fish 100-150 g; (preferably soodai).
Small onion 250g;
Tamarind (lime sized);
Green chilly – small – 20;
Gingelly oil to taste;
salt to taste

Method

  1. - clean the dry fish
  2. - peel the onions and press them lightly
  3. - slit (keeruthal) green chillies
  4. - put dry fish, onions, chillies, salt and water together and boil well
  5. - add oil and serve.
