Plain butter icing is delicious enough, no doubt, but rum tops the choice for a basic chocolate cake.

100 gms icing sugar
50 gms butter or margarine
a few drops rum essence or 1/4 tbsp rum

  1. Sieve the icing sugar in a bowl and keep aside.
  2. Cream the margarine using a wooden spoon till it is light and smooth.
  3. Gradually, add the sieved icing sugar and cream till all the icing sugar is added.
  4. Add the rum essence or rum and mix well.Use it as per the recipe.
