A low calorie, low sodium stir-fry to suit the Indian palate! Grated raw papaya, shredded cabbage and thinly sliced capsicum emerge as a perfect team in this recipe, complementing each other in looks, flavour and texture. Flavoured with a traditional tempering, the lip-smacking Raw Papaya and Cabbage Stir-fry is an easy and tasty way to boost vitamin A levels.

1 1/2 cups thickly grated raw papaya
1 cup shredded cabbage
2 tsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
2 pinches asafoetida (hing)
1 green chilli , slit
1/2 cup thinly sliced capsicum
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
salt to taste
1/2 tsp lemon juice

For The Garnish
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)

  1. Heat the oil in a broad non-stick pan and add the mustard seeds.
  2. When the seeds crackle, add the asafoetida and green chilli and sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.
  3. Add the raw papaya, cabbage, capsicum, turmeric powder and salt and sauté on a high flame for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the lemon juice and mix well.
  5. Serve immediately garnished with coriander.

A very different stir fry with the combination of raw papaya and cabbage. Taste really good.It is a healthy recipe.
