Rava Dosa ( Idlis and Dosas)

Rava dosa is truly a delicacy that will make your mouth water. The addition of curds, green chillies and cumin seeds adds a bit of spice to the dosa, and makes it very appetising. You can even toss in a few peppercorns and cashews. Ensure that the batter is thin and spreads automatically.

Preparation Time:    Fermenting Time:  15 to 20 min.    Makes 6 servings

1 cup semolina (rava)
2 tsp plain flour (maida)
1/2 cup curds (dahi)
2 green chillies , chopped
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
2 tbsp grated coconut
salt to taste
oil for cooking

  1. Mix together the rava, flour, curds and 1/2 cup of water to make a batter.
  2. Cover and keep aside for 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Add the green chillies, cumin seeds, coconut and salt and mix well.
  4. Add more water to make a thin batter.
  5. Heat a large non-stick tava on a high flame and pour 1/2 cup of the batter while tilting the tava so that the batter forms a thin layer.
  6. Smear a little oil on the sides.
  7. When the sides brown evenly, fold over into half.
  8. Repeat with the remaining batter.
  9. Serve hot.

  2. 2. You can make rava uttapam with the same ingredients by using less water.
