Potato Peas Patties In Tomato Sauce

Ingredients



For the potato patties (to be mixed into a dough)
1 kg (2 1/4 lb.) boiled and grated potatoes
2 tbsp cornflour
1/2 tbsp lemon juice
1 chopped green chilli
1/2 tsp sugar
salt to taste

Other ingredients
1 1/2 cups boiled green peas
1 tbsp thick cream
1/2 tsp sugar
salt to taste

To be ground into a paste (for the patties)
1/2 cup chopped coriander (dhania)
5 green chillies
1 tbsp grated fresh coconut
1/2 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt

For frying the patties
batter of 1/2 teacup plain flour (maida) and 1 teacup of water
bread crumbs
oil for deep-frying

For the tomato sauce
1 kg (2 1/4 lb.) tomatoes, cut into big pieces
3/4 tsp chilli powder
3 to 4 tsp sugar
2 tbsp cream
2 tbsp tomato ketchup
salt to taste

For serving
grated processed cheese

Method
For the potato patties

  1. Mix the green peas, paste, cream, sugar and salt.
  2. Make small balls from the potato dough. Flatten the balls.
  3. Place a little mixture on each potato round and close to form patties.
  4. Dip the patties in the batter, roll into bread crumbs and deep fry in oil.

For the tomato sauce

  1. Boil the tomatoes without any water. When cooked, blend in a liquidiser and strain.
  2. Add the chilli powder, sugar and salt and boil for 10 minutes on a slow flame.
  3. Add the cream and ketchup.

How to proceed

  1. Place the patties on a serving dish and pour the hot tomato gravy over them. Sprinkle the grated cheese on top and serve hot.
  2. Alternatively, bake in a hot oven at 200 degree C (400 degree F) for a few minutes before serving.
