Ingredients



For the dough
2 1/4 cups whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
1 tbsp melted ghee
salt to taste

For the stuffing
3/4 cup grated coconut
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp cardamom (elaichi) powder
1/2 tsp nutmeg (jaiphal) powder
2 tsp ghee

For cooking
ghee

Method

    For the dough

    1. Sieve the flour with the salt.
    2. Add the ghee and mix very well.
    3. Add enough water and make a soft dough.

    For the stuffing

    1. Melt the ghee and add the coconut. Cook on a slow flame, stirring continuously until it is lightly coloured and totally dry. This should takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Cool.
    2. When cool, add the sugar, caramom powder and nutmeg powder and mix well. Taste and add extra sugar and nutmeg as desired.

    How to proceed

    1. Knead the dough and divide into 20 portions.
    2. Roll out each portion of the dough into a small round of about 100 mm. diameter.
    3. Spread 1 tablespoon of the stuffing on one round and dampen the edges by applying water. Preass another round on top and seal the edges to enclose the stuffing completely. Repeat for the remaining rounds and stuffing.
    4. Cook on a hot tawa (griddle) on both sides using a little ghee until pink spots come on top.
    5. Serve hot.
