Mutter Chaat

Mutter chat offers a novel way of cooking and serving green peas or mutter as chaat. The boiled green peas are tossed with an array of spices, chutneys and garnishings and is enjoyed as an evening binge favorite.

2 cups boiled green peas (or a combination of peas and canned chickpeas)
1 tbsp oil
1 onion, cubed
1/4 tsp ginger (adrak) paste
3 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
2 tbsp chopped green chillies
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1 pinch asafoetida (hing)
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp chaat masala
1/2 tsp chilli powder 3 tablespoon(s) beaten curds (dahi)
to taste tamarind chutney
salt to taste


  1. Heat oil in a pan and fry jeera and hing.
  2. Add the peas/chickpeas alongwith all the other ingredients- do keep aside a little onion, green chilies, chutney, yogurt and coriander.
  3. Continue cooking until all ingredients are mixed and heated.
  4. Mix in all the saved ingredients and adjust seasonings- especially chaat masala.
