Onions and sesame seeds add flavour to the otherwise bland iron and zinc-rich Jowar flour used in these baked puris. At just 10 calories per puri, you can enjoy them without guilt! Make the puris in advance and keep them ready for those sudden hunger pangs.

Makes 36 small puris

1/2 cup jowar (white millet) flour
1/4 cup chopped onions
2 tbsp black sesame seeds (kala til)
salt to taste

Other ingredients
1/4 tsp oil for greasing

  1. Combine all the ingredients and knead into a firm dough using as much water as required.
  2. Divide the dough into 36 equal portions and roll out each portion into a thin circle of 38 mm. (1.5") diameter.
  3. Place these circles on a greased baking tray and prick all over using a fork.
  4. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180°C (360°F) for 10 to 15 minutes or till the puris are golden brown and crisp, turning them around once.
  5. Cool and store in an air-tight container. These will stay fresh for 3-4 days.
