The pleasures of Italian cuisines are known world over. They are healthy and nutritious. Although many identify Italian cooking with a few of its popular dishes, like pizza and spaghetti many are unaware that Italian cuisine is highly regionalized and seasonal. The country officially unified in 1861, its cuisine reflects the cultural variety of its regions. Neapolitan depicts the cuisine of Naples a beautiful city in southern Italy. Risotto is an important part of the northern Italian cuisine.

The culinary practice of Italians influenced the rest of Europe to place more emphasis on vegetables and less on meat. Salad was a distinguishing aspect of the Italian meal as early as the sixteenth century.

There are essential ingredients that form a part of Italian cuisine (basil, olive oil and garlic), but the most important ingredient is passion and inventiveness.
