Quite an innovative recipe, the Idli Manchurian is prepared from leftover idlis which are made into dumplings and then simmered in a sweet and sour Chinese gravy. Enjoy as starter or with noodles as side dish.

Ingredients


8 refrigerated or hard idlis
1/2 cup cornflour
1/2 cup plain flour (maida)
1 1/2 tsp soy sauce
1/2 tsp ginger-garlic (adrak-lehsun) paste
oil to deep fry

For gravy:
1 big sized onion
4 green chillies
2 cm piece of ginger (adrak)
1 capsicum (optional)
1/2 tsp soy sauce
1 tbsp oil
2 tbsp cornflour
1/2 cup chopped spring onions

Method

  1. Cut idlis into small squares.
  2. Or you can use mini idlis also.
  3. Mix the other ingredients –maida,cornflour, ginger garlic paste & very little salt with water to a medium batter.
  4. Dip idli pieces in this batter & deep fry.
  5. Drain & keep ready.
  6. Chop onion, green chillies, ginger & capsicum fine.
  7. In a vessel heat 1 tbsp oil .
  8. Lightly fry all the chopped ingredients.
  9. Add ½ tsp soya sauce & fried idlis.
  10. Add cornflour mixed with 2 cups of water.
  11. Boil & remove.
  12. Add chopped spring onions & serve.
