Garlic (lehsun): One or two cloves of garlic taken on an empty stomach in the morning daily is the best remedy to control high blood pressure.

2.

Amla (Indian gooseberry): An effective treatment for high blood pressure is a mixture made with equal amounts of amla juice and honey. Have a tablespoon of this mixture early in the morning everyday.

3.

Low sodium fruits and vegetables: Fruits and vegetables like orange, guava, sweet lime, plums, cucumber, green peas, french beans, ladies finger, brinjal, bitter gourd etc. help to keep high blood pressure at bay. If you are not very fond of these raw fruits and vegetables, try their juices and soups instead. See the recipe of Garlic Vegetable Soup.

4.Fluids: Drink plenty of fluids to maintain the fluid and electrolyte (sodium and potassium) balance in the blood.
5.Salt substitutes: Restrict the consumption of salt to keep a check on your blood pressure. Instead, try natural salt substitutes like black salt or use herbs and spices like chilli, pepper or home made Sesame Herb Blend, to minimize the daily intake of salt and add more flavours to your meals.
