Green Peas Dhokla ( Microwave Recipe)

Easy and delicious dhoklas that are made nutritious with the addition of green peas. Serve them with green chutney to make a sumptuous breakfast.

1/2 cup besan (bengal gram flour)
1/2 cup boiled green peas
1 tsp ginger-green chilli paste
1 tbsp powdered sugar
1/2 cup water
1/4 tsp citric acid (nimbu ka phool)
3/4 tsp unflavoured fruit salt
salt to taste

For The Tempering
1 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
2 green chillies , finely chopped
a pinch of asafoetida (hing)
1 tbsp water

For The Garnish
1 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
1 tbsp grated coconut

  1. Purée the green peas to a smooth paste using very little water.
  2. Add all the other ingredients to the green pea paste and mix well. Add a little water, if required to get a dropping consistency.
  3. Pour into a 150 mm. (6") diameter and 25 mm. (1") high greased microwave safe dish with a lid and microwave on high for 3 minutes covered.
  4. Remove and let it stand for 2 minutes.

For the tempering

  1. Combine the oil and the mustard seeds in a small microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 2 minutes.
  2. Add the green chillies and asafoetida and microwave on high for 1 more minute.
  3. Remove from the microwave and add 1 tablespoon of water.

How to proceed

  1. Pour the tempering over the dhoklas and cut into square pieces.
  2. Garnish with the chopped coriander and grated coconut and serve hot with green chutney.

  2. Replace the peas with ¼ cup of chopped palak and ¼ cup of chopped methi leaves and proceed as per the above recipe.
  3. Always use your hands while mixing the batter to break lumps of the besan, sugar and citric acid crystals.

tasty...yummy...quick recipe...can make any family liked it very peas dhokla is a good variation of regular dhokla.

5 stars. It is really so easy. I have tried it in the microwave and the stove top steam method, both are very good. I also substituted the peas with grated baby marrow.
