BASMATI RICE
|
|
|
Description:
Basmati rice has been cultivated in India and Pakistan for hundreds of years. It is a variety of polished Indian rice that has a rich aroma once it is cooked. Old Basmati rice is highly prized for its flavour. Much of the basmati rice is cultivated in India and Pakistan.
How to select:
A long-grain rice that is approximately four times longer than it is wide. Basmati is one of the most popular long-grain rice varieties due to its texture, nutty flavour, and popcorn-like aroma.
Use:
The rice is fluffy and dry and the grains do not stick together after it is cooked. Steaming, boiling, and baking are excellent preparation methods for basmati rice, which can be used in pilafs, salads, and a variety of cooked dishes. Basmati rice combines well with sauces and curries. It is readily available in most large food stores.
How to store:
store in dry airtight container.
Health benefits:
Basmati and easy cook rice has a lower glycaemic index than long grain. That means they are more slowly absorbed, so are better choices for your diabetes control. Steam or boil rice rather than adding oil and frying.
