Produced for thousands of years, soy sauce is a salty, brown liquid made from fermented soy beans mixed with some type of roasted grain (wheat, barley, or rice are common), injected with a special yeast mold, and liberally flavoured with salt.

A basic condiment from South-East Asia and Japan, soya sauce is widely available in proprietary bottles all over the world. It is black in colour and made from soya beans, wheat, water and salt. Different varieties of soya sauce are available in Japan and China. However in India, only one variety is available. It is used in marinades, stewed dishes or as a table condiment.
