Description:
Golden syrup is a thick, amber-coloured form of inverted sugar syrup, made in the process of refining sugar cane juice into sugar, or by treatment of a sugar solution with acid.
How to select:
Slightly sweeter than sugar, it is a by product of sugar refining which is further refined. Its consistency and colour are similar to that of honey.
Use:
It is widely used as a topping for pancakes and waffles. Golden syrup is used to make desserts like brandy snaps among others. It is also used widely in the manufacture of biscuits.
It is used in a variety of baking recipes and deserts. It has an appearance and taste similar to honey, and is often used as a substitute for people who cannot eat honey and those who choose not to (such as vegans). It can also be used as a substitute for corn syrup.
