Healthy Juicing

Getting Equipped with Juicing

For successful juicing and blending, you will need some basic equipments. Along with blender or juicer you will also need other useful equipments like sharp knives, chopping board, peelers, apple corers, etc.

Blenders are ideal for soft fruits like bananas, chickoos, papayas etc. as they help retain all the fibre if the juice is unstrained. Juicers, on the other hand, are best for firm fruits and vegetables such as apples, carrots etc. but they are not good for soft fruits which clog up the machine and do not provide much juice. Two types of juicers are available in the market. Both are also referred to as hoppers. They are:

1. Centrifugal Juicers: These work by finely grating vegetables and fruits and spinning them at great speed. This separates the juice from the pulp. They also have a pulp collector where the pulp residue is collected and a spout from which juice comes out.

2. Masticating Juicers: These are a little more hi-tech and also more expensive. Instead of shredding the fruits and vegetables, they finely chop it and then force the pulp through a mesh to separate out the juice. These juicers produce a greater volume of juice than centrifugal models and because of the method of extraction; the juice contains more live enzymes.
