A very famous recipe in indonesia, the vegetables in this salad are dressed with an unusual combination of peanuts, tamarind and jaggery. Bean sprouts add crunch and health to this salad. Brimming with nutrients like zinc, calcium and fibre, this is a must try.

Gado Gado Salad recipe - How to make Gado Gado Salad

Preparation Time:     Makes 6 servings


For The Gado Gado Dressing
1/2 cup roasted peanuts
4 tsp grated jaggery (gur)
2 tsp tamarind (imli) water
a pinch of chilli powder
1 tbsp low fat cream
salt to taste

Other Ingredients
2 cups bean sprouts
1/2 cup boiled baby potatoes , halves (optional)
1 cup broccoli florets , parboiled
1 cup cucumber cubes
8 to 10 baby corns , blanched and
salt to taste

For The Garnish
2 tbsp roasted papad
2 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
For the gado gado dressing

  1. Combine all the ingredients with ¼ cup of water and blend in a mixer to a smooth paste.
  2. Refrigerate to chill.

How to proceed

  1. Combine the sprouts, broccoli, cucumber, baby corn and salt in a serving bowl and toss well. Refrigerate to chill.
  2. Just before serving, pour the gado gado dressing over it and toss gently.
  3. Serve immediately garnished with roasted papads and coriander and serve chilled.

The peanut dressing is key and use plenty of it with crushed papad. My 10 year daughter loved it. Throw in any veggies like french beans and brocolli and carrots to make this healthier and colorful.
