Date and Walnut Cake recipe - How to make Date and Walnut Cake

225 gms seedless dates (khajur)
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp baking powder
85 gms plain flour (maida)
115 gms butter or margarine
115 gms sugar
55 gms chopped walnuts (akhrot)
2 eggs
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
sweetened cream for serving
  1. Chop the dates, soak in 5 tablespoon of water and add the soda bi - carb. Allow to stand overnight or at least for 4 hours.
  2. Sieve the flour and baking powder.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar very well until light and creamy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time and beat well.
  5. Add the vanilla essence.
  6. Mix the dates and walnuts together and add alternately with the flour.
  7. Grease and dust a shallow 200 mm.(8") diameter tin.
  8. Pour the mixture into the prepared tin.
  9. Bake in a moderate oven at 350°F for 45 minutes.
  10. Cool and cut into slices.
  11. Serve with sweetened cream.

The cake is delicious. My family(especially my parents) enjoyed the cake.The flavor of dates is delicious.My cake was ready in 30 mins. So depending on the oven one should check.
