Date and Sesame Wontons ( Easy Chinese Cooking)

A delightfully innovative dessert of wonton wrappers filled with a nutty date mixture. This is one of my favourite chinese desserts and i will not skip that mandatory scoop of ice-cream.

For The Wontons
25 wonton wrapper
1/3 cup milk
oil for deep-frying

For The Stuffing
1/4 cup sesame seeds (til)
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup dates (khajur) , finely chopped
1 tbsp butter , softened

To Serve
vanilla ice-cream
2 tbsp powdered sugar

For the suffing

  1. Toast the sesame seeds over a medium flame until they are lightly browned. Cool.
  2. Grind them coarsely and mix with the brown sugar, dates and butter. Keep aside.

How to proceed

  1. Place about 1 teaspoon of the stuffing in the centre of each wonton wrapper.
  2. Apply the milk along the edges and fold over to make a semi-circle. Bring the ends together and press to make a wonton. Refer to diagram see below.
  3. Repeat with the remaining dough and stuffing to make more wontons.
  4. Deep fry in hot oil until they are golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper.
  5. Sprinkle the powdered sugar on top.
  6. Serve hot with vanilla ice-cream.
