Dal pancharatna is a delightful recipe with the panch lentils cooked together. The thick and rich dal panchratna is best suited for parties and can be enjoyed with both rice and rotis.

Makes 4 to 5 servings


  1. Combine the dals and pressure cook with enough water and turmeric till the dals are cooked.
  2. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid and keep aside.
  3. Heat the ghee in a kadhai and add the cumin seeds.
  4. When the seeds crackle, add the onions and saute till they turn transparent.
  5. Add the tomatoes, mix well and saute for another 2 minutes.
  6. Add the cooked dals, ground paste, red chilli powder, coriander powder and salt, mix well and cook for 10 minutes or till raw smell goes.
  7. Serve hot for rotis and pulkas.
