Chocolate Butter Cream

An easy-to- make and inexpensive chocolate icing.

Ingredients


1 cup margarine
1 1/4 cups icing sugar
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/4 tsp vanilla essence

Method

  1. Sieve the icing sugar and cocoa powder together and keep aside.
  2. In a bowl, cream the icing margarine using a wooden spoon till it is light and smooth.
  3. Gradually, add the sieved icing sugar and cocoa powder mixture and cream till all the icing sugar is added.
  4. Add the vanilla essence and mix well.

VARIATIONS :

  1. COFFEE BUTTER CREAM
  2. Increase the quantity of icing sugar to 1 1/2 cups and add 1/2 tablespoon of coffee essence or (1 teaspoon instant coffee powder dissolved in 2 teaspoons water) instead of cocoa powder and vanilla essence.
  3. LEMON BUTTER CREAM
  4. Increase the quantity of icing sugar to 1 1/2 cups, add 2 teaspoons of finely grated lemon rind instead of cocoa powder and 1/4 teaspoon of lemon essence instead of vanilla.
  5. ORANGE BUTTER CREAM
  6. Follow the recipe of Lemon Butter Cream only add orange rind and orange essence instead of lemon rind and lemon essence.
  7. VANILLA BUTTER CREAM
  8. Increase the quantity of icing sugar to 1 1/2 cups abd that of vanilla essence to 1 teaspoon. Do not add cocoa powder.

Tips
  1. You can use this butter cream to ice and decorate any cake.
